Hammam during pregnancy

Content

The popularity of the Turkish bath Hammam is great all over the world. It gives relaxation, cleansing, improves mood and practically represents a whole bath ritual. But expectant mothers have questions regarding the admissibility of a visit to the hammam while the child is waiting.

Is it possible or not?

Visiting the Turkish bath for pregnant women is not prohibited for any period. This is one of the few baths that are not subject to strict prohibitions and restrictions while waiting for a baby.

Eastern culture and traditions do not imply high temperatures in the washing room, and historically this is not accepted. Hammams appeared even in the time of the Roman Empire, and then there was simply nothing to warm the large public rooms for washing up to strong heat.

According to tradition, the temperature in the Hammam is 30–50 degrees Celsius, and this is optimal for a woman in an “interesting” position due to the peculiarities of thermoregulation of a pregnant body.

To create a heat in the Russian or Finnish bath (sauna), water is poured onto the stones.

Hammam has a gentle microclimate, as it simultaneously warms up the walls, floor and stone loungers. Another important detail is air humidity. In the Turkish bath, it is ideal for a woman who is preparing to become a mother - 100%. Breathing in the hammam is easy, easy, the airways are well moisturized.

Bathing procedures at low temperatures are not prohibited either during short periods of pregnancy or before childbirth, and therefore it is possible and necessary to go to the Hammam, of course, with the support of the attending physician.

Who is contraindicated?

Even such a sparing and delicate view of the bath is contraindicated for women, who have tumors especially oncology.

Do not advise doctors to visit the Turkish bath and expectant mothers with:

  • epilepsy;
  • disorders of the central nervous system;
  • with the threat of miscarriage;
  • low placentation;
  • diagnosed threat of preterm birth.

From the trip to the Eastern bath should be abandoned, if the temperature has risen, there is a strong toxicosis.

How to go to the hammam?

In the absence of contraindications, a woman can enjoy all the possibilities of a hammam.

  • Start with a warm room where you can warm up, but avoid lying on your back on a marble bed - this can cause compression of the inferior vena cava. Better lie on your side or sit.

  • For woolen mitten massage, settle in a sitting or standing position. If you have a tendency to allergies, ask not to add essential oils.

  • Olive soap, traditional for a hammam, pregnant does not harm - use on health.

  • Take a cool shower, swim in the pool.

During pregnancy, it is worth to abandon such additional “charms” of the Oriental bath as wraps with essential oils - now any wrappings are unsafe, again due to the special thermoregulation.

Do not forget about non-slip slippers on the feet, so as not to fall and not be injured.
